Ms. Cotter's class enjoyed the day of the Christmas holidays. We had some hot chocolate and decorated our very own gingerbread men.
Ms. Cotter's class were busy making Christmas decorations from recycled materials. Using just two toilet rolls, the children created some beautiful snowflakes. It's hard to believe they once held toilet paper.
The children in Miss Cotter's 4th class enjoyed our drawing lesson this week. We all had a go at drawing Spongebob Squarepants. Everyone had great fun and all the artwork turned out lovely!
Fourth Class have been learning about division in Maths this week. We have been looking at lots of different strategies to answer division sums. We learned how to do repeated subtraction, skip counting, inverse (using our multiplication tables) and groups. Here are some samples of our work.
Miss Cotter's 4th class had lots of discussions about kindness this week ahead of World Kindness Day on Friday. We looked at the different ways they could be kind to others. Here are some of their suggestions.
Children in 4th Class have been learning about Team Hope's Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Because of Covid, this year's Christmas Shoebox appeal is moving online. The children in Miss Cotter's class helped her to build a shoebox online and chose lots of different gifts to be included for children less fortunate than us.
Lots of children in the class have been building shoeboxes at home and making donations to Team Hope. www.teamhope.ie/christmas-shoebox-appeal/ Fourth Class are busy getting ready for Halloween. Here is some of the lovely art work the children have been working on. We completed haunted houses spiral art. We designed some pumpkins and we will be using one of the designs to carve our own pumpkin in class. The children also designed sugar skulls as we have been learning about the Mexican celebration Dia de Los Muertos. The children are working hard on projects all about the celebration.
Miss Cotter's 4th Class enjoyed Maths week last week. We did lots of activities during the week including tables games, plenty of puzzles and a few card games. We watched an episode of Maths TV where we learned a few interesting tricks with dice and calculators. On Thursday, we completed a STEM challenge with spaghetti and marshmallows! The children had 25 minutes to build the tallest structure using 20 pieces of spaghetti, a metre of masking tape and one marshmallow. The tallest tower was 68cm.
Fourth Class continue to enjoy TSI. Pupils are reading together in small groups. Each pupil has a special role within the group and reading together helps everyone to understand and enjoy the books better. Pupils are developing great maturity, teamwork and independence as they work together in their groups.
We performed the classic Fourth Class Christmas anthem 'Donde Esta Santa Claus?' at our Christmas Assembly.
We had fun doing some science investigations. We experimented making parachutes and using materials from the kitchen to make a bubble bomb.
Fourth Class children gave generously to the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Appeal and the Christmas shoe-box appeals.
